About
After a cumulative total of more than seven bands, and near on twenty members, two people have found the chemistry and camaraderie necessary to aurally recreate the silent songs in their heads. When Of Normandy are not traveling the highways and interstates of Texas, they can be found hiding in a small, but accommodating rehearsal space under the oppressive skies of Houston, Texas.
The music Of Normandy create has its roots in the shoegaze and dreampop scenes of the early to mid nineties, taking bits here and there from other genres since. Their use of twenty-first century electronics updates the sound of the lush, guitar driven pop songs… Although, they do, sometimes, quite ignore the guitar altogether. Likewise, their live performance techniques smack of a generation drowning in technological advances, using machines to recreate sounds that are not possible with only four hands. Of Normandy also frequently employ a rotating cast of “third members”, who play various instruments, including bass guitar and acoustic drums, making the live performance aspect of the band an ever evolving experience. The result is a full-frequency blanket of sound, perfect for Sunday morning (or a Friday night spent alone in your bedroom).
Only having played a handful of shows in the past year, Of Normandy have, nonetheless, become the recipients of very high acclaim among their peers and audience alike. They have also received a fair amount of airplay on regional radio shows, such as The Good Show (KTCU-Ft. Worth) and Sound Awake (KPFT-Houston), among others. Of Normandy began performing live on June 13, 2003, opening for long time favorites, the Lilys. They continue to perform with only the choicest touring and regional bands.
The band are currently looking for a suitable label on which to release their debut, five song ep entitled, the monument ep.
